What the Music Indicators actually mean on the Report Card:
In Music there are 3 indicators: 1. Demonstrates musical techniques by performing alone and in groups. These techniques include singing, playing instruments, listening, moving, creating, reading and writing music. 2. Analyzes, evaluates and responds critically to a variety of musical genres. This has to do with the learner's attitude and response to different types of music we may listen to, move to and critique. 3. Demonstrates understanding of the elements of music. The elements of music are: Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Form and Expression. · Rhythm involves the learning of what the value of each different note is; how to read a short rhythm phrase and eventually how to notate it. · Melody has to do with the "SHAPE" of the song; the distance between notes and recognizing high, low, middle and the same pitches. It also has to do with learning the tones of the scale (Do, Re, Mi.....). · Harmony is comprised of the supporting sounds, not the main melody. · Form has to do with how the music is put together for a performance piece. For example, instruments only, then add voice, instruments and movement then end with voice only. It is basically how the piece is arranged and presented. · Expression involves how the music is played. We bring an element of ourselves when we perform anything and there are ways to communicate to an audience that make for a better performance. CONTACT INFO:
